Union College Cogeneration Plant, Schenectady, New York

Underscoring their commitment toward achieving carbon neutrality, this new natural gas-powered CHP Plant will significantly reduce Union’s carbon footprint.

CHP Program Manager: Cogen Power Technologies

Design-Builder: Bette & Cring

Moving Union College closer towards carbon neutrality, this design-build CHP project meet the energy demands of the college while providing an environmentally- and economically-friendly solution. The CHP plant produces 75% of the electricity; 90% of the steam, and 87% of the cooling consmed by the campus.

The $13.7M project includes a 1.8 MW Gas Turbine, a 45,000 lb/hr Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), a 225 psig Gas Compressor, and a 600 ton absorption chiller. An Automatic Load Shed Management system controls the supply of electricity and shed loads during utility power outages.
